This is without a doubt the fastest, quietest drive I've ever installed. Before I purchased this drive I read some unfavorable reviews. I decided to purchase it anyway because I have a great deal of favorable experience with Seagate drives. I've worked in the IT field for years and have installed many drives in various machines. The Seagate brand is my preference.

This item is listed as a "bare" drive" that means it doesn't come with cables, software or instructions. If you've replaced or added a drive before, you don't need the end user packaging. If you're putting it into an older machine as I was, you'll need to make sure you have a SATA port to connect it to. If you have to add the SATA port, you'll probably also need a proper power connection. To upgrade my older machine, I purchased the

Cable for the power conversion/SATA data connection. Both were exactly what I needed for the upgrade.

As of this writing they've been installed and working in this older Windows machine for about a month without incident.

P.S. I found the downloadable Seagate Disc Wizard software to be useless bloatware/Addware. I just used the OS to format the drive.

I bought this drive for my media center pc, and it is great. The price was right and it serves its purpose. Drive is relatively quiet and doesn't rev up like some drives, which is important in a family room situation. Not much more to say, it's a hard drive and it works great!

Seagate had issues with a firmware update that caused a lot of users problems early in 2009. This was unfortunate, as Seagate's Barracuda line has always been the top or next to the top, in throughput. So basically, the people who buy Barracudas are looking for something pretty good for their system.

Fortunately, this drive, so far, runs very well. We purchased two of the 1 TB drives and are using them in a RAID configuration. They run pretty quiet and they are truly fast.

The bulk drive normally comes in a cheap cardboard box with a wrap or two of bubble-wrap. This does not truly isolate the drive, as, when purchased from another vendor, one arrived with a broken SATA port. This was sent back for a refund, and I got its replacement from Amazon.

Amazon ships it in a cardboard box, but it is much better insulated, with plenty of space around the drive and the two ends being housed in shock-absorbing plastic. It looks cheap, but you soon realize it is the most practical way to get a bulk drive shipped.

This is a good buy for anyone wanting speed, low noise, and capacity as a low price.
