Against the background that I use, this is a perfect ride. I now have five of these sitting in a home server with built-in Ubuntu 9.04, all in a software (mdadm) RAID array with lvm over the top to partition / volume management, and I could not be happier. They are low-power, who were perfectly accents my 24 / 7 online headless servers, and cause no problems at all so far. I have a decently cooled case - an Antec 300 - and they remain relatively cool, averaging about 33 degrees Celsius. Ialso enabled on each of the TLER drives with easily accessible WDTLER Western Digital utility to avoid potential problems with using a RAID array, which is a function that you pay a lot of money in an "enterprise" level to bring.
A great musician and perfect for a home server. Highly recommended.

The drive is great, but still Amazon used very poor packaging of 2009-11-16. I have 2 and they came in a big box full of plastic cushions, but - oh, was skulduggery - all the plates directly in contact with the bottom of the box, input effects. I also have a 1 TB model, which was properly packed, but they were packed as if they are books. Common, amazon, you know how to do it, please note to sensitive items such as these.

contrary to the opinions, this package wa perfectly well packaged and the drive of the box holder fit perfectly and protects it in a program. The drive worked immediately taken formatted in attack and perfect, and has been running 24 / 7, is very quiet and cool running. I bought these for use in my small form factor desktop. I know, not for the players, but it suites my everyday computing as if it were for them (btw was it was)
I run Vista and used it to replace my dead Seagate OEM (after only 13 months) HD. Asprevent the norm of the Seagate I got was the 500 GB hard drive, which has vitiated by errors and corrections (as in the Dell Web site) (DELL) listens to me even without asking - a firmware upgrade disk hangs on!

I have a 7-year-old desktop (Intel P875 I think) that 2 Seagate 120Gig had Barracude eSATA drives. Decided to replace these 2 with the 1TeraByte Drive by WD to. My PC has become so much calmer. No problems with the installation of the drive. I have to reinstall Windows XP (I think the operating system on a separate IDE drive, and) all my data on this new 1TeraByte drive. I have the drive now for about 3 months, and it runs great. Can not beat the price.

To function 1.5TB WD Green drive seems good.
I just hope down the line, because it can not on the package during shipment. It was like a pinball packed in a crate, make matters worse, our postmen 5ft she fell over a fence while we were not at home. Because it is "bulk / OEM" packaging, it is nothing but a thin layer of antistatic film for them. Amazon standard plastic bags will not protect this product. A simple bubble wrap, that the cost of what would be a few pennies -Work much better protect the drive from hard blows, and save $ for future income from amazon due to failed hard drives. Heck, even the packaging they used to put books in would've been nice. That is why I rated only 4 stars, otherwise it would have been 5 stars.
