I bought this to replace an old WD Green 500GB drive, used strictly for Acronis backup images. It's housed in an Antec MX-1 external SATA enclosure and works great. I took it out of the package, installed it into the MX-1, had Windows 7 initialize it, create a single partition(1.8TB available with default block size on NTFS) and format it. I then changed the storage location on my Acronis tasks and that's it! No problem whatsoever! Runs nice and quiet an cool. Especially in the fan driven MX-1 enclosure.
I'm pretty darn impressed with it's performance as well. For being a 5400RPM drive, it's pretty peppy. I haven't yet run a synthetic benchmark(i.e. HD Tune), but I did some test copies to and from this drive and in comparison to a WD Black 1tb I also have in an external enclosure, I really don't notice any difference. I'm sure there would be a difference for someone doing heavy video editing, but for backup and typical use, it's performance is more than acceptable.

Great for backup - William Hutto -
I needed something to use with my Thermaltake BlacX dock. This drive worked perfectly. I wanted a solid drive with a lot of space (this was written in 2009, by the way...I used to think 1 GB was a lot of space).
One of the concerns I had, was cooling in the dock, which would be passive, although out in the open. This drive only got warm, so this is definitely a winner for me. Because I was using a USB interface, I can't really rate the performance, but for backing up, this is a huge bargain.
I read some other reviews where they had DOA's caused by poor packaging. These (I bought two) seemed to be packaged just fine. They came in cardboard boxes and were isolated from the edges with cardboard inserts as you might expect. However, I ordered multiple items, meaning these boxes were inside a larger box.

Great drives... if they work. I just recieved them and haven't even tried them yet, but I'm so angry about the way they were packaged I just had to say something while I'm still willing to bother to post this review. I will update it they work or if they need to go back.
Just save yourself the headache if you need drives and get them from [...]
Each drive was in a loose single wrap of bubble wrap and a single air cushion. Neither was enough to keep them from flopping around loosely within the smaller box. Then each of those boxes were loosely packaged within a larger box with a couple of air cushions... two of which were popped by the time they made it me. Anyway, they were free to flop around in their own boxes and those boxes were free to flop around inside a larger shipping box.
Great drives... just don't get them from Amazon.
